Bevel — A Backend Output LLC Product
Effective date: March 23, 2026 · Last updated: October 6, 2026
The Bevel Data Pledge
We make money from subscriptions — not from your data.
We're a small team building software for construction companies. This privacy policy explains what data we collect, why we collect it, and how we handle it. We've written it to be readable — not to obscure what we're doing.
What We Collect
Account information
When you sign up for Bevel, we collect your name, email address, and company name. If you enable SMS notifications, we also collect the mobile phone number you provide in your notification settings. If you subscribe to a paid plan, your payment is processed by Stripe — we don't store your credit card number.
Project data
You can upload documents to Bevel — receipts, plans, contracts, photos, and other project files. This content is stored in your account and used to provide the service. We treat construction plans, specifications, and project financials as confidential business documents: they are stored in private storage, isolated to your organization, and processed only to provide the features you use.
Photos
Jobsite photos you upload may contain embedded metadata from your camera, such as the time and GPS coordinates where the photo was taken. Bevel may read this metadata to organize photos by date and location within your projects.
Voice recordings
If you use voice features — voice punchlist walkthroughs, voice notes, or AI meeting notes — we process the audio you record to produce transcripts and structured items. Audio is transcribed by our AI providers (see AI Processing below) and is not used to train AI models.
Location data
Project addresses you enter are geocoded so we can show jobsite weather and maps. If your organization enables location-based time clock features, we collect your device's location at clock-in/clock-out to verify presence at the jobsite — only when you use those features, never as continuous background tracking.
Usage data
We collect information about how you use Bevel — which features you use, when you log in, what pages you visit, and general activity within the app. We use this to improve the product.
Device and connection data
Standard web server logs: your IP address, browser type, and operating system. We don't use this to identify you individually.
Microsoft Teams integration
If your organization connects a Microsoft Teams channel to a Bevel project, the Bevel bot receives only the messages addressed to it — a message beginning with the /task command, or one that @mentions the bot. It is not a channel-wide listener: Microsoft does not deliver the rest of your channel's conversation to it. We store the command text, the identity of the sender (mapped to their Bevel user), the channel-to-project connection, and the technical references needed to reply into the channel. The Teams bot itself uses no Microsoft Graph permissions: it cannot read your mailboxes, files, calendars, or directory. (Bevel's Microsoft app also carries one separate, opt-in permission for the Outlook calendar integration below. The bot does not use it, and it reads nothing until a person connects their own calendar.) Disconnecting the channel stops this collection; Teams-derived records follow the same retention as the rest of your account data (see How We Store Your Data below).
Outlook calendar integration
If your organization turns this on, each person can choose to show their own Outlook calendar inside Bevel. It is opt-in, one person at a time: nothing is shared until you open Bevel, press Connect Outlook, and sign in to Microsoft yourself.
What we ask Microsoft for. Read-only access to your own calendar (Microsoft calls it Calendars.Read), plus permission to keep it up to date without you signing in again (offline_access), and the basic sign-in details that tell us which Microsoft account you connected. We cannot create, change, or delete your events, and we cannot see anyone else's calendar, your email, your contacts, or your files.
What we store. For each event: its title, start and end time (or all-day date), location, whether it's cancelled, how it shows (busy, free, and so on) and its privacy setting, the organizer's name and whether you are the organizer, your reminder setting, the link to open it in Outlook, and Outlook's reference IDs so we can keep it in sync. We do not store event descriptions or attendee lists. For the connection itself we keep your Microsoft account name and IDs, sync status, and a sign-in token that is encrypted with a key kept outside our database. Your mirrored events are visible only to you in Bevel, not to the rest of your company.
Your company's approval. Microsoft requires an IT administrator to approve this permission once for the organization. That approval on its own shares no one's calendar. Each person still decides for themselves whether to connect.
Disconnecting. Press Disconnect on Bevel's calendar page at any time. We then delete your mirrored events, erase your sign-in token, and cancel the change notifications Microsoft sends us. Your Outlook calendar itself is never touched. If access is withdrawn on Microsoft's side instead (for example in your Microsoft account's app settings, or by your administrator), syncing stops and Bevel shows “reconnect needed”. Events already mirrored stay visible only to you, clearly marked as out of date, until you reconnect or disconnect. Deleting your Bevel account deletes the connection and every mirrored event with it.
Email sent to Bevel reply addresses
Bevel gives organizations email addresses ending in @reply.bevel.build, for example a project's capture address or the address a subcontractor replies to when answering a bid invitation or an RFI. Mail sent to these addresses is received for us by our email provider, Resend. People who send it are often not Bevel users and have not agreed to these terms, so this section is written for them too.
What we store. The sender's name and email address, the other recipients and anyone copied, the subject, the message text, and any attachments.
What happens to it. The message belongs to the organization it was addressed to. When we can match it confidently, we file it there: its attachments go to the right project's documents, a bid reply goes to its bid package, and an authenticated reply can record a response on an RFI, submittal or change order that organization sent. When we cannot match it confidently, or when the sender's email fails the standard checks that it really came from that address, we hold it for a person at that organization to review and never file it automatically. Our AI provider may read the message to classify and summarize it, and we scan it for malicious instructions before any AI sees it (see AI Processing below).
Who can see it, and for how long. Members of the organization it was addressed to can see it, like the rest of that organization's project records. It is kept under the same retention rules as the rest of that organization's data (see How We Store Your Data below). If you emailed one of these addresses and want a copy of what was stored, or want it deleted, contact the organization you emailed, or email privacy@bevel.build and we will help.
Cookies
We use two types of cookies: an authentication token (keeps you logged in) and preference cookies (saves your settings like column layouts and display preferences). We don't use advertising cookies or third-party tracking cookies, and our analytics (Vercel Web Analytics and Speed Insights) are cookieless and anonymized. Full details in our Cookie Policy.
How We Use Your Data
- •To provide the service — run your account, process your documents, generate your reports, send your daily logs
- •To maintain and improve the product — understand which features are used, identify bugs, and improve performance. This means product analytics only — we never mine, repurpose, or train models on your content.
- •To communicate with you — send account notifications, product updates, and support responses. You can opt out of marketing emails at any time.
- •To process payments — your billing information is handled by Stripe under their privacy policy
We do not sell your data. We do not share it with advertisers. We do not use it for any purpose other than operating and maintaining Bevel.
SMS / Text Messaging
If you enable SMS notifications in your account settings, Bevel will send text messages to the phone number you provide. These messages may include daily log reminders, safety alerts, schedule updates, bid invitations, and other project notifications. SMS features are available on eligible paid plans — see our Terms of Service and SMS Terms & Conditions for details.
What we collect: Your mobile phone number (provided in your notification settings and verified by a one-time code), your opt-in status and the date your number was verified, your opt-out status if you reply STOP, and records of messages sent and received — including message content — for delivery, troubleshooting, and compliance purposes.
How we use it: Your phone number is used solely to deliver SMS notifications you have opted into and to respond to messages you send us (such as field commands and questions to the Bevel assistant). We do not use your phone number for marketing and we do not sell it.
Who can see it: Your phone number and message records are shared only with Telnyx, the carrier-connectivity provider that transmits our messages, which processes them under its own privacy policy. No mobile information will be shared with third parties or affiliates for marketing or promotional purposes. Text messaging originator opt-in data and consent are not shared with any third parties. Within your organization, administrators can see whether SMS is enabled for team members.
How long we keep it: We retain SMS message records for as long as your account is active, and retain opt-out records indefinitely so that we never message a number that has asked us to stop.
Opting out: You can stop receiving text messages at any time by replying STOP to any message, or by disabling SMS notifications in your Bevel account settings. Reply HELP for assistance.
Deleting your SMS data: You can remove your phone number in your notification settings at any time. To request deletion of your SMS message history, email privacy@bevel.build — we'll complete deletion within 30 days, except for opt-out records we must keep to honor your STOP request.
Message frequency: Message frequency varies based on your project activity and notification preferences. Standard message and data rates may apply.
AI Processing
Bevel uses artificial intelligence throughout the platform — reading plan sets, extracting data from receipts and bids, answering questions in chat, drafting RFIs and daily logs, and transcribing voice recordings. When you use an AI feature, the relevant content (a document, a plan sheet, a photo, an audio clip, a question) is sent to an AI provider for processing: Anthropic for document, plan, and chat intelligence, and Google (Gemini API) for voice transcription.
Our AI providers do not use your content to train their models. Your data is processed to fulfill your request and is not retained for model training purposes.
AI processing happens only to provide the feature you invoked — we don't run your data through AI for advertising, profiling, or any purpose unrelated to the service. Provider privacy policies: anthropic.com/privacy and policies.google.com/privacy.
How We Store Your Data
Your data is stored on Supabase, a managed database platform hosted in the United States. Data is encrypted at rest and in transit.
We retain your data for as long as your account is active. Cancelling a paid subscription does not delete anything — your account continues on the free tier with your data intact.
When you leave, we scrub the person and keep the company records. Ask us to close your account — email privacy@bevel.build — and after a 30-day window in which you can reverse the request, we remove your personal identifiers: your email address, your phone number, your profile photo, and your name, which becomes “Former member”. Your business records stay. Every change order, pay application, daily log, RFI, submittal, photo and estimate remains in your organization's account, with your past actions attributed to an anonymised former member rather than orphaned.
This is deliberate, and it is for your benefit. Those records are your company's construction records. A general contractor may need them years later to answer a delay claim, a payment dispute, or a defect allegation — in Louisiana, across a contract window that can run a decade. Deleting them on request would destroy your own evidence, so we do not offer it and we will not do it quietly. If you want your records gone as well as your identity, say so explicitly and we will talk about what is lawful and what it costs you.
Export your records at any time from Settings — you do not have to close your account to get a copy. Identifier removal is irreversible once the 30-day window passes. Three things survive it: SMS opt-out records, kept so we never message a number that said STOP; billing records, kept as long as tax and accounting law requires; and anything under a legal hold you have notified us of, which is preserved until you confirm the hold has ended (see Terms of Service §11). A hold blocks identifier removal too, not just record deletion.

Your Rights
- •Access — request a copy of everything we have on you
- •Correct — update incorrect information in your account settings or by contacting us
- •Erase your identity — email privacy@bevel.build and we remove your personal identifiers after a 30-day reversible window. Your organization's business records are retained, with your past actions anonymised rather than deleted — see How We Store Your Data above for why, and for how to ask us about anything beyond that.

To exercise any of these rights, email us at privacy@bevel.build.
California Residents (CCPA)
If you are a California resident, you have additional rights under the California Consumer Privacy Act:
- •The right to know what personal information we collect and how we use it
- •The right to request deletion of your personal information
- •The right to opt out of the sale of your personal information (we don't sell it, but you have the right regardless)

European & UK Users (GDPR)
Bevel is operated from the United States and your data is stored and processed in the US. If you use Bevel from the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, or Switzerland, this section applies to you.
Legal bases: We process your data to perform our contract with you (running the service), for our legitimate interests (securing and improving the platform), and with your consent where required (for example, SMS notifications and marketing emails — both of which you can withdraw at any time).
Your rights: In addition to the rights listed above, you have the right to data portability, the right to restrict or object to processing, and the right to lodge a complaint with your local supervisory authority. To exercise any of these, email privacy@bevel.build.
Transfers: Where GDPR applies, transfers of personal data to the US are made under Standard Contractual Clauses — see our Data Processing Agreement.
Children
Bevel is not directed at children under 13 years of age. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 13. If you believe we have inadvertently collected information from a child under 13, contact us and we will delete it promptly.
Changes to This Policy
If we make material changes to this policy, we'll notify you by email and update the “Last updated” date at the top of this page. Continued use of Bevel after a policy change constitutes acceptance of the updated terms.
